It’s no secret that for the last few years cupcakes have dominated the dessert scene. But now, people are beginning to turn away from the little indulgences and move towards a new fix: pies. The all-American comfort food is making a comeback as many begin to see cupcakes as expensive luxuries. With new pie shops springing up over Los Angeles and other major cities and pie sales increasing over the last year, bakers are looking for new and inventive ways to incorporate pie into their selection.
With pie “shooters” for celebrations to “lolli-pies” (mini pies on a stick) for an everyday treat, new versions of the classic are flooding into bakeries. From sweet to savory to tequila-infused, there are many variations to choose from. Some couples are even choosing pie over the traditional wedding cake. It’s no longer about commercially-prepared desserts, but rather the comfort and memories conjured up by pie.
If you’re looking for a quick fix, most places offer mini pies for individual enjoyment in addition to regular-sized ones. While cupcakes, frozen yogurt, and other dessert trends seem to come and go, pie remains a constant contender for people’s hearts as a classic feel-good treat, now available anytime.
