In addition to an outstanding menu, Davio’s luxurious setting offers an ideal place for special events with facilities that can host up to 200 guests. The restaurant includes a penthouse floor private dining room and arrangements may also be made to use the entire restaurant. Housed in Philadelphia’s historic Provident Bank Building, a visit to Davio’s requires an elevator ride to the main dining room. Bursting with anticipation, we step off chilly 17th Street and into the low-lit elevator. We are pleasantly surprised that we get a sneak peak at the restaurant’s menu, which is posted on the elevator door. The ride up is speedy, but we already get an idea of the great things to come.
As soon as the elevator doors open, smooth jazz music combined with the soft buzz of quiet conversation and clinking dinnerware surrounds us and we step into a setting that exudes class and style. We walk through the comfortably chic bar area where there are comfy-looking couches surrounding low tables for those who opt to sip while they wait for a table. The long, sleek, polished bar shows off shelves of premium liquor used to mix selections from the list of snappy concoctions and classic cocktails, and an array of draft and bottled beers. Condensed menus on the low tables in the bar area let us know that it offers another dining option for those who are more pressed for time or want to munch on small plates while meeting with friends for a post-work drink.
The gleaming, polished walnut floors lead us further into Davio’s where we find the restaurant’s stylish-looking manager greeting us with a smile. He runs the front of the restaurant alongside a wait staff that is smartly dressed in long white coats reminiscent of those found in authentic Italian restaurants.
As we are lead to our table, we notice that the vast dining room stretches far back as it boasts high sweeping ceilings, grand pillars, and huge arched windows that invite in the blue light of dusk from the surrounding city streets. The restaurant is dimly lit and features recessed lighting fixtures that hang overhead like bright stars. Well-appointed seating allows for a free-flow of movement for the eye and the staff who easily move past the tables, which are dressed in pristine white tablecloths complemented by sleek, dark high-backed chairs.
Our server, Joseph, is a seasoned-pro; this is made apparent by his knowledge of the food and recommendations for our options that evening. He is accompanied by another server, Michael, who makes suggestions on what wines might go best with various dishes, and also makes sure our table is clear and free of crumbs between courses.
While we await the arrival of our first course, we are given a white Italian Prosecco to sip on. It is chilled and slightly fizzy, almost resembling a less dry champagne.
Our meal begins with what the servers tell us is the restaurant’s signature dish: Philly Cheese Steak Spring Rolls® served with spicy homemade ketchup and spicy mayo. This dish, created by Executive Chef David Boyle, is golden brown on the outside with a thin and crispy wonton crust. Inside is a warm blend of shaved rib eye and cheeses. The rolls come to us on a long white plate, topped with a delicate bundle of curly fried onions that cascades down and around the golden brown shells. The texture combines the familiar crunch of an eggroll with the taste of a Philly cheese steak. The dish has proven to be such a hit that the restaurant has marketed a frozen version at local grocery stores.
With our appetizer we sip on a glass of New Zealand Sauvignon Blanc that is cool, light, and crisp with slight floral hints.
Next we are served the Warm Spinach Salad with mushrooms, peppers, goat cheese, pignoli and pancetta tossed in a warm shallot vinaigrette. The spinach, which our server tells us is organic, is fresh, earthy and vibrant. The goat cheese is a surprising touch to the salad that we can’t get enough of It has a nice nutty flavor to it and its smooth texture blends well amidst the leafy greens. The vinaigrette is warm and sharp, yet slightly sweet, and hugs the salad lightly. The dish is topped off with the roasted taste of the peppers, the earthiness of the mushroom, and the pleasantly sporadic crunches of the pancetta and pignoli.
The Bufala Mozzarella is served with roasted heirloom tomato and fresh sprigs of basil in a balsamic reduction. The dish is vibrant in color, smell, and taste. The sliced red heirloom tomatoes are juicy and the fragrant sprigs of fresh basil add a refreshing zest to the dish. The fresh Bufalo mozzarella is milky and smooth and is best when drizzled with the robust balsamic reduction.
With our second course we sip on a mineral-focused Rudi Wiest Riesling with fruity hints of apple and pear.
Finally, the main event arrives promptly as our salads are cleared. First comes the Grilled Center Cut Filet Mignon, a thick hunk of meat about the size of a fist that is grilled to an appealing brown. The outside of the cut is seared to a slight crunch and is a wonderful contrast to the inside, which is cooked to medium temperature and cuts and tastes like butter. The flavor of the rich beef and its juice glide across the tongue with each morsel of meat we savor. Davio’s only serves all-natural Brandt Beef, which is known for optimal flavor and is the only beef producer to receive the Master Chefs Institute’s “Seal of Excellence” for its commitment to producing a superior culinary product.
The Pan Roasted Jumbo Sea Scallops share the same buttery tenderness as the filet, only with a more delicate taste similar to lobster. Like the steak, the top is seared to a slight, pleasant crunch.
Our meaty main courses come with three sides: an earthy, fresh spinach and mushroom combination, delicate angel hair pasta in a zesty marinara sauce, and a creamy blue crab risotto that is almost the consistency of a thick rice pudding. This fan-favorite has a robust taste of creamy, savory crab and is decorated with fresh hunks of tomatoes.
We sip a velvety Napa Valley Pinot Noir with our main course that is laced with cherry and smooth in taste.
For the grand finale of our meal, we’re served a Chocolate Molten Cake that is served fresh out-of-the-oven with a light dusting of powdered sugar. The rich chocolate cake is moist, and once we cut into the center we get a delightful surprise of smooth, velvety chocolate fudge that slowly swarms the white plate. The smooth stream of bliss mixed with the cake is complemented by fresh vanilla gelato on a bed of chocolate shavings. Warm and velvety, this sinful chocolate dish is simply unforgettable.
We end our meal with a hot cup of coffee as we nibble on some fresh-baked biscotti, which are nutty in flavor and firm, yet not stale.
Our coffee cups are empty and our dessert plates don’t bare a single crumb as we linger in the comfortable and stylish setting of the restaurant while others sit down to enjoy their meals. However satisfied, we are green with envy as a little parade of long white plates are sent out to surrounding tables; consequently, we decide that our jealousy is all the more reason to return to Davio’s Northern Italian Steakhouse to try absolutely everything else on the menu.

It was perfect!! The lighting was dim, the food was great as well as the service. The price was fair as per any top resturaunt in Philadelphia. It was within walking distance from the comedy club we had tickets for. Which was more than a plus. We booked it on the same day and timing couldn't be better. We will def visit again soon. I never fill these things out but I was very impressed. With me that doesn't happen often.
The food was fantastic and the ambiance was phenomenal. We went at lunchtime and the price was completely reasonable. The waitstaff are extremely well-trained also.
My wife and I received a special treat on Valentine's Day, dinner at Davio's. The experience was outstanding. The staff was attentive, accommodating, friendly-- real professionals. They complemented the great food, wine, ambience and value. It was truly enjoyable.
Can't say enough- From the moment we walked in, the staff treated us with kid gloves- imagine taking your children out for an elegant, romantic dinner while having appropriate homemade fresh food, crayons and puzzles for them on hand in a romantic quiet environment - all at reasonable prices. It was hands down the best dining experience we've ever had with our children and was a highlight to our trip to Philly. I would highly recommend this as a 'fancy dinner' where you can feel 100% comfortable walking in with your children- the clientele didn't even mind- it was truly a vacation. Thanks Davios-
We celebrated a 30th Wedding Anniversary at Davio's. Everything from the welcome and greeting to the attentive service was a wonderful and personal experience. The meal was great and the recommendations from a very attentive and fun staff were spot on. Great dining experience!
This was my first visit to Davio's. I arrived early for lunch and was able to interact with the wait staff sampling the dishes at the bar and to converse with the bar tender. It was quiet, convenient to Center City, private, and perfect for a business lunch. The food was perfect, and the bar tender and wait staff attentive.
This restaurant should be a top choice if the price is within your range. We are from Hong Kong who got spoiled by top ranking restaurants in the world. Davio's is definitely up there.
What a wonderful find. I have walked past the restaurant and this time I decided to make reservations. Hosting 5 people I was a little nervous since I had not experienced Davio's before. It was a great evening, not at all rushed(we had some business to attend to), wine, appetizers, salad and entres were all delicious. I will be back in a week. Highly recommended.

My boyfriend and I enjoyed dinner at Davio’s for my birthday last night and I want to start by saying it was an over the top exceptional experience. Every bit of our stay there was exactly what I was looking for in a special night out. We walked up to the hostess stand and gave our name for our 7:30 reservation, within an instant we were escorted back to our table. The entire staff was attentive and courteous, pulling out our chairs for us, addressing us by name, constantly filling up our water glasses and even folding my boyfriends napkin for him when he got up to alert the hostess that it was my birthday (sneaky man). We both got glasses of wine, and they were phenomenal! We then placed our order; we decided to just get an entree to save room for dessert, being that the server already presented us with a basket of incredible Italian bread and spreads (choice of goat cheese or eggplant spreads with plump olives in the middle) for us to snack on. While we were waiting, our server came over to our table with two small plates of salads, stating that the chef wanted us to have something while we wait for our meals, on the house, what a delightful surprise! As we waited for our entrees my boyfriend and I enjoyed the candlelit, quiet, intimate setting as the wine was flowing. The plates were then cleared and or meals we placed before us. I enjoyed the penne with apple wood smoked chicken in a walnut cream sauce and my boyfriend had ordered the lobster ravioli (with gigantic chunks of Maine lobster incorporated in the dish). Both meals were to die for, we have both found out new favorite meals, my compliments to the Chef! After the main course, the server came around and showed us the desert tray; I like variety so I picked the sampler (chocolate cake, cheesecake, éclair, and a citrus cake atop raspberry drizzle and plump raspberries). To my surprise our dessert came out with a little candle and around the plate “Happy Birthday Nicole” was written in chocolate, I had no idea this was coming, it was such a wonderful surprise and made my experience there more memorable than ever. After dessert the table was cleared and the bill was paid, we were thanked by our waiter and I was wished a happy birthday from what seemed like every staff member. I don’t think I stop smiling the entire time I was there! I want to thank my boyfriend and EVERYONE at Davio’s for making my birthday a truly exceptional and memorable experience, we will see you again soon!

Took my fiance out for our seven year anniversary. Nonstop exceptional service. They catered to our anniversary, serving our desert with "Happy Anniversary" written in chocolate on the plate. Every part of the meal was the best we ever had. Salads, appetizers (Philly Cheesesteak Rolls), main courses, and dessert. Our drinks were never empty and food was always on the table. Excellent night and superior service.
The restaurant was outstanding across the board for their environment, service and food. If I am ever in Philly again, I will go back- absolutely.

A wonderful experience at Davio's for my eight business dinner guests. The entire staff was knowlegable, helpful, and entertaining as well. The food was not only fabulous, but served at just the right time from the appetizers to entrees to desserts. They know what they are doing here and a it's a great place if you want to leave a lasting impression. Be prepared ro pay for the high quality you receive here.

Took my wife to dinner for mothers day and to celebrate her birthday. She loved the restaurant and the staff was wonderful. She did say it would look more appealing at night with the city lights and the lighting available inside. Somewhat pricey but worth it for special nights.

It was my first visit to Davio's. With the love of my life, in the city of brotherly love! Service was excellent. We had a waiter on standby it seemed. The best steak north of DC. I will definitely take the 2 hour train ride for this meal again.
This was our first visit and our 29th wedding anniversay. We were seated at a table near the bar and my wife asked if we could move further in to the dining room. The request was cheerfully addressed and that type of customer service carried on through the rest for he meal. The waiters were great and the meal was spectacular. It was topped off by desserts with "Happy 29th Anniversary" written in chocolate around the rim of the plates. I would highly recommend Davio's to anyone who has yet to experience this restaurant and I know we will be back may times in the future!
We were visiting from out of town and enjoy eating in New York, New Orleans and our home town of South Florida. We felt Davio's offered a great value for the price, with interesting food selections and the ability to bring one of favorite wines (BYOB). The food was prepared exquisitely with interesting tastes, but nothing over-the-top. The wait staff enthusiastically answered our questions as to how our food was prepared and the background on many of the dishes. Overall, Davio's was a pleasant surprise that provided us with a meal to be remembered! Thanks to the staff for a wonderful evening.

This was one of if not the best meal i've ever had. The crab risotto was out of this world. The only thing that outshined the food was the excellent service.
Me and my husband went here for a romantic evening and it was very nice. The atmosphere is wonderful and the staff is extremely professional and provided great service. The food was exquisite! Although the menu could have been a little broader the dessert selection made up for it! Can't wait to go back!

Visited Davio's for the first time along with 4 business partners. We all went away from the experience completely satisfied i.e. great atmosphere, exceptional service from the hostess, waiters/servers and sommelier to the great tasting food. Davios proved to be an outstandfing choice for my mid-size, informal banquet. The serving teams were well coordianted and superb. Every contingency was anticipated and resolved transparent to the diners. Davio's has my highly, unqualified recommendation for individual and medium size parties desiring terrific food and the best service in the Philly area.
5 women ate here and every one raved about the food, service, wine and atmosphere. We will be back.
It was our daughter's sixteenth birthday and she wanted to "dress-up" and go out to a "fancy dinner". Davio's followed through with confirming the reservation a day ahead and actually accepted without difficulty an addition to our party just hours before. The staff were prepared and acknowledged immediately the uniqueness of the family occasion and this brought a most appreciative smile from the birthday girl. A memorable event.
My first time dining out on Easter Sunday and I'm glad I choose Davio's. The service was amazing,the food was awesome and location was lovely.

My companion and I both had a light salad and a pasta dish. I had the applewood smoked chicken and it was excellent. The servings were large enough so we both waddled out with doggy bags. Service became a bit scarce as the place filled up. Nevertheless, I would certainly recommend it.
The service at the restaurant is very good, but almost too good. How's that possible you ask? I believe you get too many people assisting you and constantly asking how everything is. They always made sure that my water was filled and helped us with everything, but not a good restaurant for a romantic night out. The steaks were very good and the sides were decent. The calamari was for the appetizer was very good. Overall, the experience was good, but the prices were steep compared to places such as Alma de Cuba and Sullivan's Steakhouse that had about the same quality food, but more romantic setting.
We were visiting Philafdelphia for the weekdend and several webites and a few buisness colleagues recommended Davio's. We arrived 20 minutes early and had a cocktail at the lounge, which was nice. The drinks were quite expensive. We had a nice table but it was on the aisle near the host stand and there were a lot of people woalking by. All the tables near the windows seemed to be for groups of four or larger. The service was platinum. We had a very energetic waiter named Ricardo and he had two assistants, one of whom was obviously a trainee. Ricardo recommended an off-the-menu item for my wife and it was better than my entree (and it cost less, which is rare for off-menu items). We enjoyed the food, although the Philly Cheese Steak Spring Rolls were a bit over-rated. They know how to cook a nice piece of fish. We shared a dessert, but several items looked good. All in all, a pleasant evening. The only disappointments were the location of our table and the very expensive valet parking. If I knew the area, I would have opted for self-parking nearby and saved $10.

I am from Mexico and it was my first time in Philadlphia and we wanted to have a nice dinner, and so we did! The Restaurant was very nice and the food is great, I highly recommend the spring roll sampler and the house specialties steak. The dinner was very special because I met my bother I have not seen in a while and we both enjoyed a great dinner! It was a pitty that we were so full before we had desert, but they all looked delicious! The only thing was that we were properly dressed for the ocasion as casual elegant but we did see other people that weren't aware of the dresscode.
This was our first time at Davio's, and we had a very good dinner. The staff is excellent - very knowledgable, well trained and attentive. The food was very good. This would be a good restaurant for a business diner or family gathering. The price was reasonable. My only concern, is that the wine list is too expensive, which encourages customers to have wine by the glass instead of bottles.
A pleasant evening out
Food was pretty good... Portions are average, but 50 dollars for a steak with no sides is pushing ridiculous. Service was all over the place, our main server was very knowledgeable and kind, but there were three other servers who didn't seem up to par for a Saturday night dinner. In addition, I found what was very obviously a caterpillar in the peppers they serve with bread and when I brought it to the attention of one of our servers he immediately dismissed it as not one and offered to eat it. Whether he was joking or not, it was rude and the fact that we were served a full on larvae and then mocked was extremely unprofessional. I will not go back. 175$ for one appetizer and two entrees without sides and two glasses of wine? Frankly, awful

My wife and I went there to celebrate our anniversary. We were dressed formally for a great night out starting with dinner. We was surprise to see customers very casually dressed, Blue Jean, really. We made reservation, which did not matter. We were seated behind a column in the back of the restaurant. This was not the place for such an important occasion.
restaurant needs to have a better rose champagne and red wines to match with good food and service.
There are far more restaurants in Philadelphia where the price befits the experience and food. Davio's is not worth the heavy toll it takes on your wallet.
Bad service. Spring rolls were decent, steaks were NOT cooked properly. Huge dissapointment.
I did not end up dining at Davio's and here is why. I set up my reservation for 730 in the evening. When the woman called to confirm my reservation for 600 I was concerned. I immediately called back and spoke with a gentleman who rudely told me there were no reservations open at 730. He tried to convince me to take my 600 reservation. I tried to explain to him there was not way possible I could make it at 600 he rudely said, "Eight okay?". Since I was told there were no reservations open at 730, I took the 800 slot. The people in which you speak with are rude and have an attitude. They make you feel that they are better than you. I never want to go there in the future. This experience has made me think twice about dining there ever.
